SAS News

1.4.10

Well hello there, remember us!!! Sorry for the severe delay in getting some news across to you.  We have been active in many ways.

We've had some brill gigs since we last wrote. We thank all the couples for having us play at their Weddings. We also say hi de hi to some of the lovely people we have met at charity and corporate functions alike. One of the highlights for us in the past year is being given the opportunity to play on the new royal deck on board the Royal Yacht Britannia. We are now very proud to say that we are the official ceilidh band for the yacht.

The band has changed direction in the past year. We decided to tweak our line up slightly to give a slightly more funky sound to our line up. Unfortunately we had to sacrifice Robert Douglas Kerr on Keys to bring in John Grant on electric guitar. We thank Douglas for his contributions to the band, and wish him all the best in his musical career. One of these days hopefully we can grow the band to be more of a folk orchestra.

We've been working extremely hard on all of our material in the past year, perfecting the ensemble of the band and are really happy with the results we are seeing and hearing, much fun!!! Due to the change of personnel in the band, Stevie has now become the main caller in the band, so he has been busy brushing up his dance moves.

We have invested a lot of money over the past year buying new outfits and a whole host of equipment. Our wish list never dies. We have bought new stage and floor lighting, effects machines and lots of parts for making flight cases for everything which Scott is busy hammering together. We also now have very good disco equipment and a fine repertoire too boot.

We look forward to the rest of 2010 with great optimism.

Apologies for the lack of news here. We have been too busy :-) It's that time of year where the Wedding season is coming to an end once again. We would like to thank all of the couples who have chosen the SAS this year for their big day and wish them all of the best for the future.

The good news is our demo cd is now complete. The tracks are available via the web, or we can arrange a cd for you. We are also in the process of acquiring a state of the art lighting system adding to the SAS experience.

Culzean Castle, Ayrshire August 9th. The band would like to pass on their congratulations to the new Mr+Mrs Cruickshank who were married at Culzean Castle on the 9th August 08. We thank them for inviting us to play at their Wedding. It was a good night with some of their foreign guests being treated to ceilidh dancing for the first time. It was absolutely torrential rain at the end of the night, leading to Scott our accordionist having a rather chilling experience with a 10inch deep puddle.

A big thank you to Lindsay and Alex for asking us to play at their pre Wedding party at Drum House in Gilmerton. A strong party of 100 international guests partied the night away to the SAS Ceildih band on a beautiful sunny night in a Marquee in the gardens. The theme was Scottish and Cowboys, this led to one or two eye raising outfits. We wish Lindsay and Alex all the very best for their future life together.
